Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA)
CEA (French Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission) is an internationally recognized technological research organization in the domains of energy, information, health technologies and defense. CEA/LITEN Institute (Laboratory of Innovation for New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials) aims at developing new energy technologies and is entirely dedicated to the energy transition. Activities focus on several key areas such as solar energy, smart grids, batteries and hydrogen, with a view to energy efficiency and the circular economy. Among these, works in the field of thermoelectricity consist of developing materials and thermoelectric generators for high temperature applications, mainly through innovative additive manufacturing technology.

Chair of Energy Process Engineering (EVT) at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU)
The research activities of the chair focus on three areas: “Combustion & Gasification”, “2nd Generation Fuels & Fuel Cells” and “Energy Systems & Energy Economy”. The individual projects of these topic areas deal with the three major challenges of sustainability, decentralisation and flexibilisation of a future energy supply. The reduction of CO2 emissions, the sector coupling between electrical grid and gas grid and the flexibilisation of generating plants are crucial factors here.
The topics and challenges mentioned above are investigated experimentally as well as simulation-based at EVT. The laboratory facilities (including catalytic and biological methanation, the heat pipe reformer and a SOFC / SOEC test rig) are designed for flexible operation on a scale of a few watts up to 100 kW. The simulation-based work includes not only the calculation of cyclic processes (ASPEN, IPSEpro) but also CFD simulations (Fluent) and agent-based modelling (AnyLogic, Simile).
